Heirloom Vineyards Touriga was made from their best McLaren Vale Vineyard in the Willunga basin. The manicured vines embody the very best in cutting edge, but old school viticulture and winemaking. Hand tended vines, sorted bunch-by-bunch, naturally open fermented, basket-pressed and stored in well-seasoned French oak barriques from bespoke coopers for 9 months before bottling.

COLOUR: Impenetrable in its black-purpleness. It seems to glow not at night but in full light. Glass-staining.
AROMA: Lifted aromaticity: fresh blueberries and blackberries; strawberry conserve, and then a secondary bouquet of pastrami and pepper freshly milled; more aromatics of laurel and thyme, sage and rosemary appear; even keener aromatics eventually land: spearmint, mint and citrus foliage. Living and breathing.
PALATE: Plush. Like corduroy trousers. Black-purple corduroy trousers. Friendly yet formal and in no way porty; pure dark berry fruit flavours without embarrassing lushness; rolling tannins that are never harsh; an acid keel that cuts not. It glides. Heady without headiness; giving yet full of grace. Line, length, balance, freshness.
OVERALL: This is - on paper - a powerful red wine that often, in Portugal, makes port. This is - in a McLaren Vale glass - a remarkable and happy red table wine full of life and liberty. It sings and it hums; it is bountiful but there is not a Troy ounce of too much. A beast tamed, or a wild creature let free? Drink it to tell. And drink this with anything you can sear, smoke, salt or slowly stew. Let your kitchen think of Iberia.
